“To him (Jesus), what Scripture says, God says.”
John Wenham; Christ and the Bible, p.14
“If God verified Jesus’ message by raising Him from the dead, then perhaps the chief issue concerns whether Jesus taught the inspiration of Scripture.”

Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures (39) New Testament Scriptures (27)
| Jesus quoted the Old Testament approximately 78 times, as recorded in the 4 Gospel accounts. “It is written” occurs ~70 times in the New Testament, regarding Old Testament Scripture. Fulfilled occurs 34 times in the New Testament (Old Testament Prophecy). “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” Matt 5:17-18 “But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.” Luke 16:17 His source for solving theological disputes:And as Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, in the Holy Spirit, declared, ‘The Lord said to my Lord,’ ‘Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet.’David himself calls him Lord. So how is he his son?” And the great throng heard him gladly.” Mark 12:35-37 “And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.’” Matt 22:31-32 Jesus used the Old Testament as a proof text that serves as God’s blueprint for correct theology and behavior. It disproved contrary positions. “But Jesus answered them, ‘You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.’” Matt 22:19 “He answered, ‘Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?” Matt 19:4-5Jesus appears to refer to the entire Old Testament as the “commandment of God” and “the word of God”“You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” Mk 7:8“And he said to them, ‘You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)— 12 then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, 13 thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.” Mk 7:9-13“But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?” Matthew 26:54 “If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47 But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?” John 5:46 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” Matt 5:17 Jesus indicated that each section was the Word of God: “Then he said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.’” Luke 24:44 | Jesus taught His disciples. Then He designated witnesses and spokesmen: “ You are witnesses of these things.” Luke 24:48 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 “And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.” John 15:27 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,” John 17:20 Jesus also promised His disciples the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit: “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” John 16:12-13 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26As the New Testament writers penned their words, they recognized that they were inspired: “It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.” 1 Peter 1:12 “For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Pe 1:21 “How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, 4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.” Heb 2:3-4 “For Christ did not please himself, but as it is written, ‘The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.’ 4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Romans 15:3-4 “And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures.” 2 Peter 3:15-16 “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Tim 3:14-17 |
