“We often sacrifice others when we give them what they want, but we sacrifice ourselves when we give them what he or she needs.” – Frank Turek
This statement by Christian Apologist, Frank Turek, during a Q&A at Grace Community Church in Sarasota, genuinely gave me reason to pause and pray… This hits home. How much do I fear the responses of my children, family, friends, or neighbors versus lovingly sharing Truth with them?
“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, growsand builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”
Ephesians 4:15-16
Friends, loving others well takes humility. And humility takes sacrifice. Sacrifice entails placing God on the throne of our lives instead of ourselves. A heart full of itself (self-confidence and self-reliance) will lend itself to “wants,” but a heart brought low will look-up and find God faithful…and true to His Word. Sisters, let’s abandon the man-centered fear that sacrifices for self, and humbly carry the cross of the One who boldly sacrificed for others. The Grace of God be the strength you need as you lovingly side with Truth in the lives of others. He, Jesus, is who they need.
