A Biblical Perspective of the Body:
Diminishing the soul = Atheism.
Diminishing the body = Gnosticism.
Deification of the soul = New Age and New Thought.
Both body and soul are essential components of our created design = Christianity.
Every major worldview provides a unique perspective of what it means to be human. The question we should all be asking is — “Is this perspective true?” And then examine it thoughtfully.
In her incredible book Love Thy Body, author and professor Nancy Pearcey writes, “The Bible proclaims the profound value and dignity of the material realm—including the human body—as the handiwork of a loving God” (p.34).
Pearcey continues… “We are made in God‘s image to reflect God‘s character, both in our minds and in our bodily actions. There is no division, no alienation. We are embodied beings” (p.35).
“then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”
— Genesis 2:7
“(Jesus) who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”
— Philippians 3:21
