What Does Scripture Say?

  • The Enneagram and the Genetic Fallacy?
At the 1:35-minute mark, Rohr explains why the Enneagram is NOT a tool derived through Scientific study and testing. Instead, he provides commentary pertaining to pragmatic helpfulness of its spiritual design. The Enneagram is a man-made tool intended to provide spiritual guidance. But what spirit is giving spiritual advice? Acknowledging this foundational aspect of the Enneagram negates the Genetic Fallacy argument that it can be redeemed for Christian use despite its origins. Seeking spiritual input from fallen angels is not safe. God forbids it (Deuteronomy 18; Acts 19).

    What is the Genetic Fallacy?

Per Practical Psychology, “A Genetic Fallacy is when someone judges the value or truth of an idea, person, or thing based solely on its origin, rather than its current context or characteristics.”

For example, we wouldn’t stop calling Thursday, “Thursday,” because it derives its name from Thor. The names of the days of the week do find their origin in pagan gods, but the days of the week are not worshipped…nor are we seeking spiritual guidance from them.

    However…

Tarot Cards, Ouija Boards, and the Enneagram are each designed with sole the purpose of gleaning spiritual guidance. Seeking spiritual guidance from spirits other than the one Holy Spirit is placing oneself in the hands of a deceitful spirit— God, in His love for us, forbids this.

Therefore, No— the Enneagram do not pass the Genetic Fallacy argument. These practices & protocols need to be earnestly avoided.

    Deuteronomy 18:10-12

  • Jesus is God (Second Person of the Trinity)

The “HANDS” acronym was created by Drs Robert M. Bowman & Ed Komoszewski, can be found in their books 1.) The Incarnate Christ and His Critics: A Biblical Defense and 2.) Putting Jesus in His Place: The Case for the Deity of Christ.

The Scriptures referenced in the chart below are examples from a larger list which can be found in Dr. Bowman’s books (not an exhaustive list).

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him (Jesus): ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God’. That is the one thing we must not say.  A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice.  Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”
    – C.S. Lewis (Mere Christianity)

“Relating to Jesus as to God is important for every aspect of the Christian life. We hope it is obvious that understanding Jesus’ deity is extremely relevant to how we relate to Jesus. Knowing that he is God incarnate is the only sound foundation for approaching Jesus, for coming to him in prayer, and for trusting in him for salvation. Relating to Jesus as God is also crucial to the message we take to the rest of the world.  We must know whom we represent if we are to represent him faithfully. Our Christian walk, witness, and worship must all reflect a sound understanding of the identity of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – Dr. Robert M. Bowman

  • 12 Points That Show Christianity is True

“He who thinks half-heartedly will not believe in God; but he who really thinks has to believe in God.”

    —Isaac Newton

Friends, when we examine the evidence God has provided, we are utilizing the minds God has given us. We can be confident that if we earnestly seek Truth, we will find Him. Truth transcends our opinions (Truth is true no matter our opinions of Him), but engages us in relationship— by entering the world He created to save us. We can know this to be a fact by studying history. And we can examine the evidence.

Our hope isn’t dependent upon our emotional highs and God’s love isn’t determined by the ease of our circumstances. Our hope is grounded in the work Jesus has accomplished on our behalf (1 Cor 15), and God’s love isn’t demonstrated by the same.

Lean into the facts and allow your emotions to follow. Not the other way around.

  • Why Christianity?

Why should anyone of a quest for truth consider Christianity, first and foremost?

Per Dr. Craig Hazen, Director of Christian Apologetics at Biola, here are the 4 reasons why Christianity is the worldview you should pursue first:

    1) Christianity is testable, 2) Salvation is a free gift, 3) Christianity has a terrific worldview fit, and 4) Jesus has always been at the center.

43 minutes with Dr. Craig Hazen.
    “Five Sacred Crossings: A Novel”

    1. Christianity is testable.

Dr. Hazen points to Christianity as unique from other religions as it is not a “blind leap of faith,” nor dependent upon a subjective, emotional experience. Sisters, Christianity is actually testable! God, in His wisdom and mercy, has provided historical evidence regarding the Truth claims of Christianity. And believe it or not, it all hinges upon Jesus’s Resurrection! Paul (formerly Saul) to the Church in Corinth, highlights the fact that “if Christ has not been raised” then we are still in our sins and the most to be pitied.

Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.

    1 Corinthians 3-8

    Now look at verses 12-15…

12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.

    1 Cor 12-19

Paul wrote this from the perspective of someone who had persecuted the followers of Christ before his conversion (only 2-3 years after Jesus’s crucifixion). If the resurrection wasn’t true then their preaching about Jesus’s preeminent deity (Lordship), death, and resurrection was not only “futile” but “misrepresenting God.” Christianity is verifiable, as it rests upon the empty tomb, eyewitness testimony, as well as the transformed lives of it’s followers. If you or someone you know is wanting to investigate Christianity, you can do so! Pray and look into the historical evidence for the Resurrection…God will help you!

    2. Salvation is a free gift.

Another fact that sets Christianity apart from other religious worldviews is God’s Grace. Biblically speaking, Grace (“Charis”), is God’s unmerited favor. A favor that cannot be earned, but is freely given. As explained by Dr. Hazen, “(With Christianity) there’s no crawling over jagged rocks for miles to lay some offering in some temple. There’s no sitting in lotus positions for hours-on-end hoping to move inwardly toward enlightenment, and there’s no ladder to climb unendingly towards the stratosphere of God. Salvation (in relation to Christianity) is just given to you!” Dr. Hazen explains that many of us succumb to the false dogma of working toward salvation; hence, perceiving Christianity as just another religion that requires folks to “do a bunch of stuff.” When we fall into the snare of “building our own ladders” to Heaven, we miss the point of Grace entirely…leaning instead into the trappings of self-reliance! Jonathan Edwards articulated this reality powerfully when stating, “You contribute nothing to your salvation except the sin that made it necessary.” Friends, God made a way back to Himself that only He could make. God sent His one and only Son down from Heaven, in human flesh, (John 1:14; 3:16) to pay a debt that only He could pay. A rescue that only He could make. “Amazing Grace…Who saved a wrtetch like me.”

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

    Ephesians 2:4-9

    3. Christianity is a tremendous worldview fit.

What is a “Worldview?” As defined by Ligonier Ministries, “a worldview is an overall view of the world. It’s not a physical view of the world, but rather a philosophical view, an all-encompassing perspective on everything that exists and matters to us. A person’s worldview represents his most fundamental beliefs and assumptions about the universe he inhabits. It reflects how he would answer all the “big questions” of human existence: fundamental questions about who and what we are, where we came from, why we’re here, where (if anywhere) we’re headed, the meaning and purpose of life, the nature of the afterlife, and what counts as a good life here and now.”

For point #3, Dr. Craig Hazen exclaims that, “Christianity has a tremendous worldview fit, as it paints a picture of the world that matches the way the world really is.” For example, Christianity doesn’t look at the existence of evil and suffering in the world and call it, Maya (an illusion). Biblical and Historical Christianity deals with the reality of our brokenness “head-on!” In Hinduism, someone’s suffering is viewed as a part of their karma…to interfere would be harmful to them. In contrast, God’s Word (Scripture) and Grace encourages Christians to get into the “trenches” with those who are hurting. We are comforted by knowing that Jesus Himself suffered on our behalf. Christianity doesn’t ignore evil and suffering but instead provides the history behind it, calls it by name (sin), and delivers a rescue plan that only God could accomplish for us.

    4. Jesus is at the center of Christianity.

This final point is essential. When you speak with friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors,…how do they describe Jesus? Do they refer to Jesus as a “good teacher,” “a wise prophet,” or “a highly evolved man?” Or do they call Him, “Lord,” as Jesus claimed to be? Investigating Jesus’s self-made proclamations is the most important research any person could undertake. And Christianity focuses upon these assertions. (We will dig-into this more in the paragraphs below)

Hazen explains in his talks that “everybody wants a piece of Jesus” in their religious worldview.  He goes on to share that “in Hinduism, Jesus emerges in some Hindus’ minds as either the greatest, or one of the greatest, teachers ever to walk the earth. In Buddhism, Jesus was thought to be an actual incarnation of the Buddha, himself! If not, then he (Jesus) certainly is a great Bodhisattva in the Mahayana tradition…who leads people up to the precipice of enlightenment. “In Islam,” Hazen continues, “Jesus is figured as greater than Mohammad, was considered born of a virgin, and remembered as a miracle worker.” But Christianity has Jesus at the center. Now, for anyone doubting Jesus’s existence, why would most major world religions acknowledge him? (More information on the historical Jesus below)

Christianity acknowledges the claims made by Jesus, as both historically verifiable and true. You see, Jesus did not mince words when he boldly described himself as both the “Son of Man” and “Son of God.” These two titles pointed to Jesus’s preeminent, divine nature. Jesus was stating that he was/is Lord! Something the other major world religions do not ascribe. This proclamation (as shared by both C.S. Lewis and Josh McDowell) lends itself to 3 possibilities for those researching Jesus’s claims: 1) Jesus was telling the truth, 2) lying, or 3) talking as a Lunatic. Sisters, a “good person,” “prophet,” or “wise teacher” would not be a liar or a lunatic. He is either who He professed to be or not!  Let’s think about this further…Should a liar be esteemed as highly as Jesus is in most world religions?

Another argument utilized by skeptics as to counter Jesus’s assertions of Lordship is to accuse his followers of writing-in these claims later in history. This could be termed the, “Legend argument.” However, as Dr. Gary Habermas explains, the claims of Jesus’s deity go back to the empty tomb and resurrection. Too soon for legends to be forumulated. Those who saw Jesus resurrected (500+ eyewitnesses) were both teaching and singing creeds that prolifically pointed to 3 distinct components: Jesus’s place in the Godhead, his death, as well as his resurrection. These teachings (homologia) fueled the persecutions of Jesus’s followers by those who were zealous for God’s old covenant. Numerous Christians were martyred for sharing these passionate convictiond, one of whom was Stephen. Saul was present when Stephen was stoned (Acts 7), which happened before Saul’s Damascus Road experience… which historians place just 2 to 3 years (A.D. 32-33) after Jesus’s crucifixion (A.D. 30). The implications of the early teachings and creeds is not only foundational in debunking the Legend Argument but further testifies to the personal convictions of the early Christians regarding the Lordship of Jesus. This evidence regarding Jesus’s life, death, and empty tomb is unchallenged by most non-Christian scholars. Notable mentions would be Bart Ehrman, Gerd Ludemann, and John Dominic Crossan.

“Jesus’ death by crucifixion under Pontius Pilate is as sure as anything historical can ever be. For if no follower of Jesus had written anything for one hundred years after his crucifixion, we would still know about him from two authors not among his supporters. Their names are Flavius Josephus and Cornelius Tacitus.” – Crossan

Friends, it’s my hope and prayer that this post encourages you to examine the claims of Christianity. In His mercy, God has provided all of us with abundant evidence for defending the reasons for the hope that we have in the Gospel of Jesus. You might not need these facts, and yet someone you know…might. But don’t put someone’s salvation upon yourself, as that is something only the Holy Spirit accomplishes.

“And if some folks walked away from Jesus not believing, why would we think that most will walk away from us believing?! At the least, we can put a stone in their shoe.”

    ✔️What is textual criticism?
✔️Do we have copies of copies of copies of a text?
✔️Comparing the New Testament documents to Plato and other ancient authors.
✔️What do we do with all of the variants in the New Testament manuscripts?
✔️Gnostic Gospels compared to the New Testament Gospels.

  • A Mathematical Miracle: Jesus the Messiah
Lee Strobel examines the mathematical miracle of Jesus’s fulfillment of prophecy (6m)

Psalm 22, written by King David nearly 1,000 years before Jesus’s crucifixion in AD 30 or 33, was penned 300 years before crucifixion was even invented! And Isaiah 53, “The Suffering Servant,” was drafted 700 years beforehand!

    Why does this matter?

How could we recognize our Savior without evidence to back up His claims (Mt 11:3-6; Jn 20:30; Lk 24:44-48)? After all, anyone can claim to be the Messiah/Christ. We need objective instructions (signposts) lovingly directing us to the Messiah. Only one person should fulfilling the 300+ prophecies pertaining to the Savior- matching the unique “fingerprint” provided by God. Jesus did this.

“Therefore I told you these things long ago; before they happened, I announced them to you so that you could not say, ‘My images brought them about; my wooden image and metal god ordained them.” Isaiah 48:5

“Then he [Jesus] said to them, ‘These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.’ Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” Luke 24:44-47

  • The High Christology of 1 Corinthians 15
    1 Corinthians 15

When someone examines the Christology of the early Church, he or she would survey whether the early followers of Jesus viewed him as fully divine and that pre-existed before becoming human (“High Christology”). One support of this high view of Christology is 1 Corinthians 15.

Paul penned 1 Corinthians 15 to the church in Corinth ~8-10 years prior to his martyrdom by Nero in AD 64. Within his letter is an early song or creed (v 3-8) which was sung by followers of Jesus, within 2-3 years of His bodily resurrection in AD 30 or 33 during Passover. [1]

    What does this “homologia” communicate?

✔️Jesus of Nazareth was a real man (Jewish).
    ✔️Jesus died for our sins.
✔️Jesus’s life, death, and bodily resurrection were promised in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament).
✔️Jesus appeared bodily to Peter, James, the Disciples, and to more than 500 people.
✔️This was proclaimed, sung, & written down very early.

Per historian Justo L. Gonzalez, “The early Christians did not believe that they were following a new religion (worldview). They were Jews, and their main difference with the rest of Judaism was that they were convinced that the Messiah (Christ) had come, whereas other Jews continued awaiting his advent.” [2]

Early Christians believed Jesus had fulfilled the prophecies pertaining to the Messiah from the Old Testament scriptures. The works Jesus had performed, the status He claimed to share with the Father, and the worship he had received, made it clear to these early Christians that Jesus was God incarnate (Ps 22; Isaiah 9:6; 53; Mk 2; John 1:1-3; 8:58; 20:28). [3]

The hope God has provided is trustworthy and true, no matter our mood or circumstance. We can think upon the historical reality of the cross when we doubt and rejoice in the significance of the empty tomb in our hardships. What God has done for us (on our behalf) is the greatest gift ever given!

  • Stop Signs: An Everyday Reminder of God’s Existence

For the entire month of January, my husband and I were given the wonderful opportunity to teach four, 45-minute apologetics classes to 10-15 Middle School students…and we absolutely loved it! Teaching these students was a genuine honor!

First of all, it’s incredibly important that I define what Apologetics means.

“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,”

    1 Peter 3:15

Also see: Jude 1:3, and 2 Corinthians 10:5.

Apologetics gets its name from the Greek word “apologia” which refers to making a reasonable case for a truth claim. Giving an apologia is something we all do, daily! Oftentimes, you might hear some folks make a case (apologia) for not giving a defense (apologia). Which only reinforces the necessity of apologetics.

When Steve and I were thinking upon the numerous evidences for God’s existence, and wanting to make these observations memorable for our students, a very unlikely resource came to mind: a Stop sign. That’s right— an everyday Stop Sign. 🛑 It was our hope that every time these kiddos saw a Stop Sign, he or she would think upon what they had learned…and that these evidences for God would encourage them (especially in times of difficulty).

First of all, we know that Stop signs are not illusions…but are very real. They can they be seen and touched, as well as remind us that the cars coming from other directions are very real.

Secondly, Stop signs can be objectively known by all people everywhere. My opinion about them does not change what they are. Stop signs will always mean “stop,” and they cannot contradict themselves (“stop” does not mean “go”). Stop signs remind us that objective, knowable truth exists…for all people, everywhere. [1]

Thirdly, Stop Signs have not always existed. Stop signs, like all of creation, had a beginning. In other words, they had a cause outside of themselves. The cause which created the Stop sign is not within the Stop sign but cares for (sustains) the Stop sign. [2]

This is like God! Our Triune God (Father, Son, & Holy Spirit) created the universe and everything in it…upholding the universe by the word of His power. God is both transcendent and present (Psalm 24; Ps 46:10; Col 1:16-18; Heb 1:3)

Fourth point: Stop signs demonstrate a designer exists! They have an intelligible messsge which we can understand (“stop”), they contain 8 sides, are red in color, and covered in easy to see reflective paint, and have a purpose. The intentional design of the Stop sign is a SIGN that someone volitionally planned and created these safety mechanisms! [3]

Lastly (but not least), the fact that we would need Stop signs points to the acknowledgment of a Moral law existing outside of all of us, but acknowledged by all of us. We may not agree about all moral issues, but we should all agree that right and wrong exist. [4]

Just cut someone in line at the grocery store— the reactions from those around you will reinforce that a transcendent standard of right is real (Romans 2).

With all of this being said, it’s my hope that whenever we see a Stop sign that we consider God.

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” Romans 1:20

    1. Truth (objective) vs Opinion (subjective)
    2. Cosmological Argument
    3. Teleological (Design) Argument
    4. Moral Argument
  • The Problem of Pragmatism: “Wake Up, Church!”

    Updated post from 2021.

“Pragmatism and Sola Scriptura must stand in opposition as each claims to be the key to determining truth. As Christians we need to decide if we are going to depend upon Scripture as the absolute standard of truth or if we will determine truth by consequences.”

    Tim Challies

    What is Pragmatism, exactly?

An post written in September of 2021:

Pragmatism, a philosophy developed by Charles Sanders Pierce in 1870, champions the premise that truth is proved by whether or not the idea in question works. Basically, if something works and is found useful to you…then it’s true. It advocates a way to find meaning apart from God’s Word, and relies upon the material world for guidance.

Spurgeon puts it this way, ‘Whatever a man depends upon, whatever rules his mind, whatever governs his affections, whatever is the chief object of his delight, is his god.’ When we place our reliance upon anything or anyone, we give it or them authority! And to what or whom we assign authority, we obey! Friends, Pragmatism is most certainly a concern for all of us!”

Pragmatism has always been a struggle for humanity. The mission statement of our former life was often a Pragmatic one. Doing “whatever works” frequently advocates the easy road. It’s tangible, seemingly controllable, and most often, immediate. Choosing “whatever seems right” provides our impatient hearts a semblance (temporary) relief, and the impression of practicality. For this reason, we often make the common mistake of conflating “helpfulness” as “goodness,” for what seems to be good then most be gym God— true. However, what we forget in these moments is that we are allowing subjective experience to be our standard, not Scripture.

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

    Colossians 3:16

Let’s talk about Peter’s battle with pragmatism for a moment.

When Jesus was telling His disciples what was to happen to Him in Jerusalem, Peter “rebuked” Jesus and pleaded for another way forward. Peter was examining Jesus’s plan through Peter’s own lens of human understanding, and did not find it immediately helpful (it seems).

“From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.””

    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16:21-23‬ ‭

How often do we lean upon our own understanding as Peter did: Setting our minds upon the things of man instead of things of God (reading His Word)?

Truth put on human skin (Philippians 2), was crucified upon a cross, and then rose bodily three days later (1 Cor 15). It was the work Jesus came to accomplish. Peter just needed to trust Jesus’s character, even though he didn’t understand the plan. As Spurgeon once encouraged, “When you cannot trace His hand, trust His heart.”

Gals, we are witnessing Spiritual Pragmatism all around us today—in our homes, as well as within many of our churches. What should we do? Two things: 1) Pray to God often, and 2) get into His Word, daily. We need to prayerfully discern whose voice is guiding us…The voice of culture? The voice of practicality? The voice of worldly comfort and self-reliance? Or Scripture?

    Keep trusting!

    His,

    Mer

    Scripture Says…

“The Word of God I think of as a straight edge, which shows up our own crookedness. We can’t really tell how crooked our thinking is until we line it up with the straight edge of Scripture.”

    Elisabeth Elliot

1 Kings‬ ‭18:21‬ ‬‬“And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.”

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.”

John 15:5 “…for apart from Me (Jesus), you can do nothing.”

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction”

Colossians 3:2 “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Revelation 3:2 “Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.”

Revelation 3:2-6 “Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you. Yet you have still a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments, and they will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:2-5‬ ‭ “For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”

Matthew 16:23 “ But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Galatians 1:6-10 “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

2 Timothy 4:1-8 “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”

Matthew 7:13-14 ““Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”

Matthew 6:25-33 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?  And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Psalm 92:5 “How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep!”

Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25 “There is a way that seemright to a man, but its end is the way to death.”

Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”

Psalm 9:16 “The Lord has made himself known; he has executed judgment; the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands.”

James 1:5-6 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”

Colossians 1:10 “so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God

Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,

Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”

Isaiah 40:28-31 “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”

James 4:8 “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

2 Peter‬ ‭2:1-3‬ “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.”

2 Corinthians 11:3-4 “But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.”

    1 Peter 3:15

“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,”

    Trust God’s Word

Per GotQuestions: “How we respond to God’s written Word and the Word made flesh has an eternal impact on us. Since God’s Word is truth, rejecting the Bible and rejecting Jesus is rejecting God Himself. Believing, cherishing, studying, and obeying God’s Word is the key to salvation, understanding God, and living abundantly (John 10:10). No matter what we may face in this world, we are sustained by the truth prayed over us in Jesus’ prayer: “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17).”

  • Love Defined, Rightly

Christians should view the Scriptures as Jesus views the Scriptures…as God’s authoritative word, true and unchanging (Mark 7:8-13; Matt. 26:54; Luke 4:21; John 7:38).

With this important fact in view on Valentine’s Day, Christians should always look to God’s Word (Bible) as our Dictionary in defining what love is, and from Whom it comes! Not Netflix!

Below is an impactful video by Mama Bear Apologetics I strongly encourage you all to watch…especially with your tween and teens!

  • “Reformation is a return to the sound doctrine of the Bible. Revival is the practice of that sound doctrine under the power of the Holy Spirit.”

    Francis Schaeffer

Friends, we can know…without a doubt…that the Holy Spirit, who helped the 40+ writers of the 66 books (written over 1600 years on 3 different continents, in 3 different languages) will never contradict Scripture. He will instead remind us of God’s words. With this in view, any other attempt (pragmatism) at a revival falls far short.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,” —2 Timothy 3:16 📕

“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,’ 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, 20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
    —2 Peter 1:16-21📕

  • In Richard Rohr’s Own Words

“Jesus was objectively Christ from his birth in Bethlehem, his conception in Nazareth, just like you and I are objectively Christ.”🚩 -Richard Rohr

“God is [not] too fussy about his name or her name.” – Richard Rohr; March 25, 2012 (17:45).

This side-by-side chart was compiled with the genuine prayer that it might be a helpful resource for anyone wanting to know how Richard Rohr’s theology and anthropology compare with Christianity. In order to accomplish this important task, Friar Rohr’s own words needed to be shared here. Quotes from Rohr’s books, devotionals, and interviews (along with their sources) are organized next to corresponding commentary by Christian theologians and examined by Scripture.

“One cannot disconnect the Enneagram from Richard Rohr, which is why it is essential to know his beliefs, especially since the writers of the two main books in use among evangelicals are his students and have taught at his Center for Action and Contemplation.”

Don and Joy Veinot & Montenegro
(Richard Rohr and the Enneagram Secret)📙

Friends, secondary teachings can be discussed respectfully over multiple cups of coffee or tea; however, the essential teachings of Christianity are not malleable. It’s both responsible and loving to test whether Rohr’s usage of Christian terminology matches the definitions provided within the Scriptures (Acts 17:11; 20:28).

“To him (Jesus), what Scripture says, God says.”
John Wenham (Christ and the Bible)

“But test everything; hold fast what is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Richard Rohr’s Theology vs Biblical Christianity

Until Christian leaders discover for themselves the riches of Scripture and the insights of holy men and women of the past, the spiritually hungry people of our time may pick up The Universal Christ at the library or bookstore, and suppose that this is a book of Christian spirituality. They’ll take home this lump of stone in place of bread. Shepherds and teachers, give heed.” – Seminary Professor Michael McClymond (21)

“Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.” Acts 20:28
